Local Co-op: Couch Co-op Guide

2026-08-13

Machine Party supports 2–4 player local couch co-op through shared / split-screen play — confirmed on the Steam store listing. If your group sits in the same room, this is the mode you want.

How local co-op works

  • Up to 4 players share one screen in the same 2–4 player format used online.
  • The round structure is identical: one player is active per minigame while the rest watch and react.
  • Full controller support is confirmed, so gamepads are the smoothest way to play.

Setting up couch play

  1. Connect your controllers before launching the game.
  2. Start a local session from the main menu.
  3. Add players up to the 4-player limit.
  4. Begin the first round and rotate as the group plays through the minigames.

What to know before buying for couch play

  • Local co-op is a confirmed, released feature — no waiting on an update.
  • You still need at least two players; solo play is not supported.
  • If your group is larger than four, someone sits out each round.
